So here's the completely speculative question: What happens if Universal/ Comcast Corp. It's not the lowest-grossing movie ever to open on 2,000 screens, the shortest theatrical run for a 2,000+ screen release, losing opening for such, etc., etc. But what sets Jem apart is that it was from one of the major studios and that it arrived in an era of Video On Demand. Jem and the Holograms is a tragedy, but it's not a record setter in any real way. I'm sure there are other movies out there that came and went in somewhat wide release in exactly seven days, but I can't find any. The big winner on this score was Delgo. The infamous 2008 animated flop was literally gone in exactly a week, opening on Friday, December 12th on 2,21,60 screens and then going to zilch on Friday December 19th ending with a $694,782 domestic cume.
